The first step that every one needs to take before they can bet on baseball is learning how to read the baseball odds. All the odds posted in baseball are moneyline odds although some bets require that a team wins by multiple points. Some of the most popular bets in baseball are future bets. We’re going to take a brief look at all of the different types of bets you can make in baseball.

There are many different Types of Baseball Bets that you can make on a game. Listed below are the most popular ones.

• Straight Wagers – There are several different straight wagers that you can bet on in baseball. The first type of straight wager is picking which team you think will win. Another type of straight wager is choosing the over/under on a game or the over/under on a team’s posted total. You can also bet on the first five innings of a baseball game which is great when you don’t trust a team’s bullpen.

• Run Line Wager – Most sportsbooks offer a couple different run line bets for every game. You’ll be able to bet on a team to win -1.5 or -2.5 generally with the odds becoming better as you move up. Alternatively you could bet on the underdog at +1.5 or +2.5. The odds can be very juicy when wagering on the run line, but make sure you only bet on outcomes that actually stand a good chance of coming through.

• Prop Bets – There are lots of prop bets you can bet on during a baseball game. Some of the prop bets offered by sportsbooks include player vs. player match-ups, pitcher match-ups, over/under on hits/errors/HR’s and much more.

• Future Bets – Future bets are a great way to win some big amounts of money due to the great odds. You will typically need to wait months before finding out the results of the wager, but it could be worth it. Some of the future bets you can make in baseball include over/under on regular season win total for a given team, divisional winner, World Series Champion and much more.

How to Read Baseball Odds

In baseball betting you need to be able to understand how to read moneyline odds. All the odds posted in baseball will be moneyline odds. If you bet on the run line then the moneyline odds will go down or up dependant on what you pick. If you pick the favourite to win by -1.5 or -2.5 then the moneyline odds will be lower then betting on them straight. This will help you limit the amount of juice that you’re playing on each game.

• Toronto Blue Jays -120 vs. Detroit Tigers -110

In the above example the Jays are favored in the game to win, but since it’s such a close game you need to pay juice on both of the teams. This will happen when both of the teams are close and when the action is split right down the middle. In the example listed above you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on the Jays and $110 to win $100 on the Tigers.
