One of the most widely wagered on sports in the world is horse racing as you can find horse races taking place on a daily basis throughout the world. In the world of horse racing it can be very difficult for newcomers to analyze each race. In most sports you simply need to look at two teams and decide who will win, but in horse racing there are a lot more horses that you need to do your homework on. I’ve written out some great horse racing betting tips that will help you hold your own at the tracks.
* The most obvious thing that you need to look at when betting on a race are the horses. You need to look at how well the horses have performed recently as well as if the horse has any experience on the track they’ll be racing on. A horse that has raced on the same track multiple times will be a better bet then a horse racing on the track for the first time.
* Apart from checking out the stats on the horse in the race you also need to look at the jockeys in the race. I always prefer betting on a horse that has an experienced jockey over a rookie jockey. You should also check out if the jockeys in the race have any past experience on the track.
* When looking at the horse racing odds you should always be trying to find the undervalued horse. Certain horses in every race are going to be clear favourites, but there are always 1-2 horses that don’t get bet on heavily by the public and end up with great odds. If from your research above you have found a horse that is undervalued don’t be shy about laying a bet on it just because it isn’t one of the favourites.
* If you’re making your bets online then you should make sure you use an odds tool that presents odds from multiple sportsbooks. It’s always a good idea to keep money in several online betting accounts so that you can always take advantage of the best odds. If the sportsbook you’re betting with is giving you 8/1 on a horse and another reputable sportsbook is giving you 10/1, you should obviously be making the bet with the other sportsbook.
* There are quite a few different types of bets you can make on any given horse race. Most horse race betting players will bet their straight bets heavily and sprinkle a bit of money on the higher paying bets. If you only bet on wagers such as the Trifecta and Superfecta then you can’t expect to win very often unless you’re extremely lucky. Straight wagers provide the bettor with pretty decent payouts, but it can be a bit difficult to win often. If you want to bet on an easier type of wager then you should bet on a horse to place or show which would allow your horse to finish in 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
